Be sure to make note of your moving shipment registration and keep it with you, just in case you need to call your mover with questions regarding your shipment.
Keep Your Current Phone Book
Take your phone book with you. You may have to make calls to businesses or residents back in your former town.
Give Out Your Phone Number
Before the mover leaves for your destination, give him a phone number where he can reach you. It is also, a good idea to provide him with an alternate contact, in case you can not be reached.
Get the Bed Ready
Designate one drawer of a dresser for sheets and towels so you will not have to rummage through boxes for these essentials the first night in your new home.
Remember the Bare Necessities
Toilet paper, telephone, toiletries, snacks, coffee (and pot), soap, flashlight, screwdriver, pliers, can opener, paper plates, cups, utensils, a couple of pans, and paper towels are some of the essentials you may need upon arrival at your new home. Pack a box with these types of items and ask your mover to load it last so that it will be unloaded first.
Don't Forget About the Refrigerator
After you have thoroughly cleaned and dried your refrigerator, put a handful of fresh coffee, baking soda or charcoal in a sock and place it inside your refrigerator to keep the interior smelling clean and fresh on your move.
Pack Heavy - Pack Light
Pack heavier items in small boxes and lighter items in larger boxes. This will come in handy when the items are loaded on the moving truck.
Protect Your Valuables
If you have irreplaceable valuables, take them with you in your car (you do not want to regret this later). If you do decide to pack framed photos, art or other irreplaceable items, be sure to place sheets or blankets between them, for added protection in the moving truck.
Know how to Pack Plates and Records
It is best to pack plates and records on end vertically, rather than flat and stacked.
Take Care of Your Plants
When transporting your plants to your new residence via your car, try to make sure the leaves will not rest on windows, as the heat will cause them to scorch.
Unscrew Light BulbsRemove light bulbs before packing your lamps. You do not want them to break.
Give Your Kids an Exercise
Help your children to come familiar with their new address by letting them write their new address on the moving boxes from their rooms.
Help Your Pet Relax
To help keep your pet calm and away from all of the moving activity, arrange for a friend or relative to keep him.
Take a Break from the Computer
Upon arrival to your new home, let you computer come to room temperature before plugging it in.
For Garage Sale - Tag Your Items
If you are having a garage sale before or after you move, put a price tag on all items and be prepared to make deals.
Enjoy the Help
Leave the packing and unpacking to the professionals, sit back and relax. Look forward to all of the new opportunities, friends and activities that will become part of any move.
